Digital Immortality - AI Chat Bots
Microsoft has filed a patent for creating a chatbot that could be based on the output of a specific person. The system would use "social data" such as images, voice data and social media posts to build a profile of a person. This data would be used to create a chatbot that could interact in the personality of a specific person, with the bot even being given the voice of the person. The patent does not specify whether the person is alive or dead. Microsoft's patent for creating a chatbot does not specify whether the person on whom the bot is based is alive or dead. The patent emphasizes the extent to which the chatbot will be trained to the individual's personal traits. It also deals with the issue of handling profiles of the dead, suggesting that the bot may be aware that it is imitating a dead person. The idea of creating chatbots based on specific people raises privacy concerns that are not addressed in the patent. These include whether people will have the right to opt out of the system and whether relatives will be able to prevent others from creating chatbots of their deceased loved ones. It is not yet clear when, or if, a working prototype will be produced. However this has not stopped people from creating their own. How do you feel about this type of digital immortality?
