Inconnue de la Seine

A young woman, pulled from the cold River Siene, in the 1880s. Murder? Accident? Suicide? A mask was taken of her peaceful face; that cast took on a life of its own. Her likeness spread, first as a fashionable memento mori of Parisian Bohemian Society. Then as a common artist's reference; her still face was the first portrait I sketched in charcoal when learning the foundations of drawing. Now her legacy continues as the face of Rescue Annie: "the most kissed face of all time".  When we pass, artifacts of our time on Earth are left as witnesses to the people we were. Journals, photographs, texts, voicemails, "Happy Birthday" commented on a friend's post... This young woman left behind an expression .

What story will my artifacts tell, when I pass through the Veil?
